Early on in my marketing career, I struggled with the same thing.
I had tried all sorts of marketing techniques that I learned, and it all made sense to me. But when I went to implement these strategies, everything just bombed and I lost a lot of money. When I think about it in hindsight, I realized that I did a lot of things wrong, and it could have been better if I followed the strategy right down to the “T”… instead of doing 80% of it, and neglecting the rest.
In this article, I want to share with you a few things that I think you can do to improve your sales, and get more customers flying in through your doors. I know you may have tried a few things in the past that didn’t work, but I can assure you that when you put these techniques to work, you’ll find yourself making a lot of sales relatively quickly. Here’s the first technique that I would like to share with you:
1) Know the math
Math is very important in business. Without knowing the cost per lead, cost per sale, and the average lifetime value of a customer, you will find yourself not making as much money as you possibly can. Most people neglect math, and think that all they have to do is run an ad, and they’ll make money right away. This just isn’t true.
Even if you run an ad and you start getting calls and responses from it, what’s your strategy for closing the sale? Do you have a backend marketing strategy to get even more sales from your customers? All of these things are things that you need to think about before embarking on a quest to having success in business.
2) Differentiate yourself
You can’t be a “me too” business in your niche. There has to be something about you that makes people want to do business with you instead of everybody else. So what is this “thing” that will separate you from the pack? Do you have a mascot? Do you have a dancing clown? Do you offer free movie tickets? Do you have a good slogan? Do you provide a money back guarantee? Do you offer free shipping? What is it about you that is so different from anybody else?
These are the questions that you need to ask yourself when it comes to making more money in your business. You should consider something called a “USP” also. Your USP stands for “unique selling proposition”, and it means that there has to be something different about you rather than anybody else in your niche, that will cause them to do business with you.
